Yeah - hopefully the white deer comes in closer and I can get some better shots!
As for the Hooded Mergansers, yes that is definitely a pair. We get to watch the males doing their courtship dances and competitions for the females, and then they pair off and swim off together. I'm not sure if we see the same ones all the time or different pairs. On Sunday, we had four males and three females out on the pond at the same time. If I wasn't sure that I would just scare them off, I would have braved the rain to try and get some photos. Unfortunately, they are so skittish that as soon as I would have gone outside, they would have flown off. I'd rather then feel comfortable and maybe use the duck boxes and decide to nest here.
