Much rarer than the Striped Bumblebee Shrimp (which I can usually find on almost every dive at the Blue Heron Bridge), this was the first and only time I have ever found a Spotted Bumblebee Shrimp (Gnathophyllum modestum) so far.

I still need to get some better photos of Surf Scoters. They’re weird looking birds with those oversized bills, but I still find them cool. They tend to stay pretty far out in the water, so I’ve found it tough to get any good close…
I am not sure why these photos have such a dreamlike feel to them. I don’t know if it is because of where they were taken – in the middle of Death Valley NP at Badwater Basin. Or if it is just the soft pinks…
I did not originally think a visit to Carlsbad Caverns National Park would be worth it, but on (another) recommendation from my friend Dawn, I made a point to add it to my itinerary for my drive east towards Florida, and I am quite glad…
Apologies for the month long hiatus… I will try to get back into a routine, but as usual when these hiatuses happen – no promises. When I was in Florida recently, one of the critters getting a lot of attention at the Blue Heron Bridge…
I’ve seen Red-orange Ghost Shrimp (Corallianassa longiventris) several times, and I’ve learned that the only way to see anything more than the tips of their claws and their face is you have to tempt them out with something to eat. I managed the first shot…
I’ve seen a few Sandhill Cranes around recently and it reminded me I should share some of the older photos I have of them. These photos are a mix from Hebgen Lake in Montana, and both Yellowstone and Grand Tetons National Parks in Wyoming. And…
One of the geothermal features in Yellowstone (yes, I know I still have yet to share any geyser images), the Mammoth Hot Springs and Terraces area is certainly like being in another world. It is difficult to capture any photos that really encompass the feeling…
On a recent dive, my buddy Laura spotted one of these Yellow-ringed Janolus (Janolus flavoanulatus) nudibranchs, and that seemed to open the flood gates and we started seeing a bunch of them. At one point I found a small area that had four of them…
As I was planning my trip across the southern USA, I noticed a moderately large green spot on the map between Tucson, AZ (where I was visiting Saguaro NP) and El Paso, TX (where I planned to spend a night before visiting Guadalupe Mountains NP…
Found this cool Seahare on a recent dive at the Blue Heron Bridge. I believe it is an Atlantic Black Seahare (Aplysia morio).
This Palm Warbler was nice and cooperative to let me get some good close shots…
Something I was not expecting to see while in Saguaro National Park was raptors. I mean it makes sense once you’re there and see how much wildlife – especially birds – is actually in the park. It is still desert, but it was significantly more…
Somehow I have not yet posted any photos from my stop in Badlands NP? To be honest, my time there was a bit less than I had hoped it would be. After adjusting my time in Yellowstone and hitting Grand Tetons a bit earlier, I…
