If you watched the cephalapods video from the other day, you may remember the small clip with a squid. I also attempted to take some still images with the 100mm macro lens, but they didn’t come out so great. Thankfully, because it was not a…
Continuing with the shaky video, here’s another one I put together… again, mostly shot with the 100mm macro lens, and mostly of several coconut octopus we found during a night dive at a muck site not far from the resort. The clip of the squid…
So I have been trying to shoot more video with the 100mm macro lens. When the results are good, they are really good. There is a definitely steep learning curve with keeping things stable and in focus, but I figured I would share this video…
I can’t say I remember seeing any of these of the reef, but I spotted these two little juvenile bicolor goatfish (Parupeneus barberinoides) (they are the half yellow/half black striped fish with the little whiskers) while on a dive in the seagrass outside the place…
I can’t decide if this is a good photo or not, but there is something about it that I like. Perhaps a different processing might change it up to make it better, but I’ll share this version for now and maybe revisit it sometime in…
Anthias are among my favorite fish on the reefs. I wish they were easier to photograph (or that I would have taken more opportunities to try), but here are a couple I managed to photograph. The one is almost definitely the Squarespot Anthias, but the…
Today I’ll share a trio of butterfly fish that were included in our surveys with Blue Ventures – the Eastern Triangle Butterfly Fish, the Redfin Butterfly Fish, and the Chevron Butterfly Fish… I’ll leave you to try and figure out which is which (hint: I…
In one of my rare good wide-angle shots, I managed to capture this well timed shot as Elka, one of the volunteers during the two week cetacean expedition, approached this massive tabular coral with the school of Yellow Striped Goatfish underneath.
While we’re on the subject of grumpy fish… This particular shrimp goby really didn’t seem to want to let me take photos of his shrimp, and then those eyes to finish off the grumpy look… 🙂
One of several species of fish that always look grumpy, I managed to get this nice portrait and thought it worked well for a square crop…
I would see these cool guys a significant amount at the dive site we used for training in Timor, but I never would have my camera with me when we were there. Then luckily on our very last dive, one of the other volunteers spotted…
As promised… another video for you… I might have a couple more coming soon – we’ll see how motivated I am to finish them.
Just a quick highlight video of some of the nice turtle encounters I had while in Timor Leste… The full highlights video from the expedition is coming soon! (like in the next post)
Today’s video is the real treat… Ales is from the Czech Republic and is paralyzed in three limbs (only has function of one arm), but because the underwater world is a different set of physics, Juan was able to see past the difficulties and we…
