So I often try to find and photograph these little crustaceans that live among host crinoids (feather stars). I tried to find a photo that made the crinoid the main subject (other than the one linked above when I was showing them swimming), and I…

This little seahorse was much easier to get to and photograph than the last one… It was not less of an exciting find during the dive though. I was glad for the second opportunity to spend another bit of time working on a really stellar…
So we found this octopus on the same night dive as the last post… and in about the same area as we were returning back to shore at the end of the dive. Originally I had thought it might have been the same octopus, but…
Iluh spotted this little guy towards the beginning of one of our night dives. He was pretty small but allowed me to get some pretty nice photos… even if it was difficult to spot on the sand.
Much like the Madagascar Cat Snake, this beautiful snake is nocturnal and rear-fanged venomous… but I think the dramatic black and yellow colors on this one make for a much more photogenic subject. I’ve been waiting for this snake to make an appearance since my…
I saw several ant mimic spiders while in Jiwa Damai. Unfortunately, I only got photos of these two with the very large mandibles. I’m not sure what function those over-sized mandibles serve, as they don’t really help them to look like ants in my opinion.…
Today I’ve got a photo that I did some more backscatter cleanup on, so hover your mouse over the photo to see the original and then move it off again to see the clean version. And also a video of me chasing a Peacock Mantis…
These guys are not related to praying mantids, nor are they actually shrimp, but it is easy to see why they got the name “peacock” with all those colors… … especially with that tail…
Today we’ve got a couple shots of Sexy Anemone Shrimp (so called because of their tendency to “dance” with their butts in the air), a pair of Peacock-tail Anemone Shrimp, and a pair of Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp. Enjoy!
So unlike the last post (and the next post), I do not know for certain what kind of shrimp these day. I think the first is some sort of spotted cleaner shrimp, the second is something like long-claw shrimp, and the last is some sort…
Ok – so if you couldn’t tell from the post title, I’m going to do a couple days of shrimp posts… and this is one I actually can positively identify. These are Durban Hingebeak Shrimp. They are a shrimp that I’ve always wanted to see…
Nudibranch mating habits are weird… First, all nudibranchs are hermaphrodites (which means they are both male and female at the same time) – so when nudis mate, they both have the chance to get “pregnant”. I say chance because apparently some nudibranchs can decide whether…
While I was in Jiwa Damai, I helped work on a project to modernize beekeeping in Bali. I created a couple videos for the project, check them out.
It is my mom’s birthday, so since I am not there to celebrate with her, I figured I’d send some flower photos.
