Crested Caracara

We got to see several of these Crested Caracara while in Brazil. As soon as I saw the first one I knew instantly what it was – probably from some nature documentary and ran to get my camera for some photos. They’re pretty large birds – like a large hawk or a small eagle, but apparently they are very opportunistic hunters that will eat carrion but also prefer to hunt from the ground (which probably helps to make them easier photographic subjects)
