On a walk in Riverbend Park, north of West Palm Beach, I approached a small clearing at the edge of a creek thinking maybe I’d see some wading birds or some frogs or maybe even a small gator. As I stood there a minute, I could hear this gnawing sound coming from the other bank but I could tell what it was. After a few minutes of looking, I found this river otter enjoying its breakfast, so I carefully took a few obscured photos (which I didn’t keep) then tried to stealthily reposition to get some better shots. In the end, the otter let me stay there with it for about fifteen minutes, though surprisingly at some point it just decided it wanted to move along and swam off with the remains of its fish in its teeth.
