Ok – this was supposed to be the post from the other day that got bumped in favor of the Striped Bumblebee Shrimp. This is another subject I found at Colleton State Park in South Carolina. I did not have any intention or anticipation of photographing anything when I stopped at the park – let alone this species of spider. Years ago, I bought a spider identification book and this was one of the species listed that I knew I would like to see in person. Their range is most heavily centered in the southeast United States, and even with that I thought it would still be pretty unlikely that I would find one.
However, after photographing those Five-lined Skinks, I was walking back to the car and I spotted a tiny little spider crawling on a grill and I knew instantly it was indeed a Magnolia Green Jumping Spider (Lyssomanes viridis)…
