I can’t say I remember seeing any of these of the reef, but I spotted these two little juvenile bicolor goatfish (Parupeneus barberinoides) (they are the half yellow/half black striped fish with the little whiskers) while on a dive in the seagrass outside the place we were staying on Atauro Island. In fact, I took the liberty of dive the seagrass a dive site name of “Barry’s Meadow” after the resort “Barry’s Place” in which we were staying.
These little guys were less than an inch long, but apparently they grow to about 8-12 inches long. I’ll have to keep an eye out for them on the reef and see if I can get some photos of the adults because I really like that color pattern. And looking at these photos now, I really feel like these shots could very easily have been taken of a freshwater aquarium.
